Lisa's fitness story

We've posted a few stories lately of weight loss, toning and general fitness improvements for our members and here is another. For those who don't know her, allow me to introduce you to Lisa.


Lisa joined Get Fit Today in April this year having not exercised for over 3yrs and having put on some unwanted weight. Lisa is one of smiliest people you will ever meet with a great positive attitude, which has no doubt helped her achieve what she has done these past few months.


Here is Lisa's story....


I joined Get Fit Today as I saw it advertised on Facebook and thought I'd give it a try as it looked like it might be more fun exercising in the beautiful Abington Park as opposed to a gym.

My main reason for joining was to lose weight as I'd put on a lot throughout lockdown and just found that I was unable to motivate myself to shift it. I thought: 'I've got nothing to lose with no tie in contract so I'll give it a go.'


After my first session I realised I was definitely in the right place. Despite it being hard, I was encouraged by everyone in the group to keep going. I hadn't exercised in over 3 years but I found myself attending 3 sessions that week. I loved it! The sessions are so varied, no two sessions are the same. They are adapted based on your ability too so you can push yourself if you want a challenge but it's always your choice.


I've noticed so many health benefits including a weight loss of 20lbs (from 12st 1lbs to 10st 9lbs).


I have a much better quality of sleep and I'm so much happier. It has reduced my stress levels significantly.


I have NEVER enjoyed any form of exercising but I've always been a member of the gym.



If I went to the gym 5 times a year it would have been a bonus.


With classes on 6 days a week at GFT I find myself planning my life around it so I can attend at least 3 times a week.


If you are contemplating joining , I understand.


It can be daunting doing something new but you will be supported every step of the way. It is by the far the best thing I could have done for myself and I would encourage anyone to do the same . You won't regret it!"


We'd like to thank Lisa for sharing her fantastic story with us, which we hope will go on to motivate others into giving it a go themselves. As mentioned above, Lisa has lost 20lbs in weight since joining us in March which is just great


Unfortunately, Lisa didn't take any photo's of herself when she first started training but the ones below show the improvements she has made between June (on the left) to September (on the right).

SHINE NIGHT WALK

As it happens, Lisa spent last night walking 10km around London as part of the SHINE NIGHT WALK charity event to raise money for Cancer Research. It's not too late to donate to this great cause if you can, here is the link to Lisa's Just Giving page.


The Shine Night Walk is a night-time walk passing Londons famous landmarks. For one night, the streets are full of charity walkers, making their way through the lights of the city and get closer to beating cancer.



Well done Lisa - great effort for a great cause!
